Abstract This dataset includes all 179 public and private airports, heliports, seaplane bases and landing strips for ultralight aircraft derived from a semi-annual update of the FAA database provided to the Maine Department of Transportation.The dataset also includes other airports in Maine which are not registered with the FAA. One FAA-registered airport in New Hampshire is included (Skyhaven - DAW - in Rochester). One Transport Canada-registered airport in New Brunswick (St Stephen - CCS3) is also included.
Purpose Created to help facilitate the reference of airport locations for planning and reporting.

Process Description Created from MaineDOT's semi-annual download of the FAA database. Points are located by latitude and longitude identified in the FAA's database extract downloaded from:http://www.faa.gov/airports/airport_safety/airportdata_5010
Process Description An existing facility was duplicated to reflect both the new and old code. The facility in Brunswick historically known as NHZ is also represented as BME.
Process Description The dataset MEGIS Airports was joined to MEDOT airports using the Location ID and FAA ID - these features were compared and analyzed, any errors found were corrected. 33 Airports existed in MEGIS Airports did not exist in the FAA's newest extract, these feature points were added and coded as FAA Active = "N" Attributes were populated where they were "Null" for Name; for use in labelling, Lat_DD, Long_DD, CITY, COUNTY, COUNTYSTATE, STATE, STATENAME for dataset consistancy, No attributes for original FAA database extracted data were altered.
