Attribute Accuracy Report This raster data set has potential errors due to misinterpretation of land cover and spatial location.
Logical Consistency Report This raster data set is based on other data sets, variably field checked for accuracy. Best available data were selected from the sources. GOMLC7 data is available from the Maine Office of GIS Data Catalog for Maine counties in GeoTIFF format at http://megis.maine.gov/catalog/. A .jpeg file is included in the download to display the colors and the classification descriptions represented. MEGIS GeoTIFFs for this dataset contain an embedded colormap of USFW/GOM assigned colors for the full classification. GRID format a full schema colormap gomlc7.txt, ArcView .avl and ArcGIS .lyr files are also available from MEGIS and from USFW, see point of contact below.

Horizontal Positional Accuracy Report Data set accuracy may correspond to that of the 1:24,000 base data used to align the raster data. Warping of the data sets was used to reduce maximum error to approximately 1 cell (30 m).

These are listed here to avoid repetition for every layer, and may not be repeated in the attribute descriptions and definitions of each layer. Common software generated identifiers and attributes in Maine GIS data include: FID (feature identifier), Shape (feature geometry), OBJECTID and SHAPE_lengt. In addition, most GIS formats will carry fields for PERIMETER, AREA and/or LENGTH according to feature geometry. These fields are typically available by default, with the units based on coordinate system or projection units of GIS data. Most GIS software packages also provide a means to calculate these values. It is important to test any columns containing PERIMETER, AREA or LENGTH values before using them for analysis purposes. These important values can be carried from format to format and become out-dated. Verify that the values are correct. Also, in your GIS software, please view the properties of data layers for the map units used to calculate these fields, and for the units set for display purposes.

Format Information Content TIFF image format is in widespread use in the desktop publishing world. It serves as an interface to several scanners and graphic arts packages. TIFF supports black-and-white, grayscale, pseudo color, and true color images, all of which can be stored in a compressed or decompressed format. TIFF images may contain georeferencing information in header tags, or a .tfw file, defined by the GeoTIFF standard. ArcGIS currently supports GeoTIFF tags.
